Leader to Deliver Speech on Anniversary of Uprising of Tabriz People
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will deliver a televised speech this week, marking the anniversary of the popular uprising of the people of Tabriz.
The Leader will address the people of Azarbaijan via video links on Wednesday morning.
On February 18, 1978, people of Tabriz held a huge rally in the northwestern Iranian city to demand the overthrow of the Shah’s regime.
The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime in February 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.
The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.
Every year, thousands of people from Tabriz travel to Tehran to meet with the Leader on the anniversary of the 1978 rally, but this year, due to the coronavirus restrictions, the meeting will be held via video links.
